In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, as the island of Dominica grappled with the devastation, a harrowing incident unfolded that has left many questioning the integrity of local governance and the safety of its citizens. A few weeks after the hurricane, two young girls, aged 3 and 4, were kidnapped and discovered only 300 feet from the residence of Rayburn Blackmore. They were found headed towards his residence. A figure whose past actions and statements cast a long shadow over this disturbing event.

Rayburn Blackmore Minister for National Security and Legal Affairs, a prominent government official, had previously threatened the author of this account in his office. The threat arose from a straightforward query regarding the delay in immigration paperwork for the author’s wife. Blackmore’s response was chillingly dismissive: “Just be happy you are six feet above ground.” This ominous statement came in the context of longstanding public disputes between Blackmore and the author’s deceased father, which had left a lingering sense of animosity and abuse of power.

The unsettling question arises: Is this type of threat indicative of the response CBI (Citizenship by Investment) investors receive when they inquire about their immigration paperwork, or was it a more personal warning aimed at forcing the author and his family to leave the island?

Further complicating the matter is the broader context of political and social unrest in Dominica. There have been claims that missing children and other violent acts are used as tools of retribution by the Skerrit government to maintain control and to target individuals with military backgrounds, particularly those with ties to the UK, French and the US. Such assertions suggest a pattern of intimidation and manipulation aimed at quelling dissent and maintaining a grip on power.

Individuals "connected" to the Skerrit administration have confirmed that measures are taken against those who have served in foreign militaries including the author of this account himself; raising concerns about potential abuse of power and the lengths to which some will go to suppress opposition.

In light of these events, it is crucial for authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into kidnapping incidents. The safety of citizens, especially vulnerable children, must be a paramount concern. Additionally, there must be accountability for any abuse of power or corruption within the local government. The international community and human rights organizations should closely monitor the situation in Dominica to ensure justice and protect the rights of those affected.

As Dominica continues its recovery from Hurricane Maria, addressing these serious allegations and ensuring a safe environment for all residents should be a top priority. The people of Dominica deserve to live free from fear and intimidation, and the authorities must work diligently to restore trust and uphold the rule of law.
